Suicide Prevention

REMEMBER: PREVENTION begins with "P-R-E-V". OUR HOTLINE IS 852-PREV. That is the same as dialing 852-7738. Other helpful numbers are Emergency Psychiatry Services at 562-3120, and (of course) 911.

If You Are the Student In Danger:

If you feel like you may be in danger of hurting yourself, or that you  are in danger of commiting suicide, please, please, please follow these other solutions:

Dial our HSC Hotline number, 852-PREV (852-7738). If all of the technology is working well, you should have your call answered by a live person trained to respond to such a crisis.

If there is a problem getting a live-voice, real-person to answer that call, please dial directly to Emergency Psychiatry Services at 562-3120.

If there is a problem getting through on that line, please dial 911.

Please do not rely on voice mail, email, or text messaging anywhere to be an adequate communication for  your needs.

If you are a faculty or staff member, or another concerned student,  who is helping counsel a distraught student who has indicated thoughts of suicide:

You can dial our HSC Hotline number, 852-PREV (852-7738). If all of the technology is working well, you should have your call answered by a person trained to respond to such a crisis. They will help arrange for back-up help from DPS.

If there is a problem getting a live-voice, real-person to answer that call, please dial directly to Emergency Psychiatry Services at 562-3120. 

If there is a problem getting through on that line, please dial 911.

IF ANY STUDENT, FACULTY MEMBER, OR STAFF MEMBER FEELS IN DANGER FROM ANY PERSON OR HAS RECEIVED THREATS OF HARM FROM ANYONE:

PLEASE CALL the DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AT 852-6111 AND FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS. If you are in an office with a duress alarm (panic button), please do not hesitate to use it.
