Prerequisite: It is very important for students to discuss this elective with Dr. Buchino prior to registration.
Course Description:
A morphologic appreciation of pediatric disease will be developed through participation in the surgical pathology and autopsy services at the Kosair Children's Hospital. A project in a special facet in pediatric pathology of interest to the student will be strongly encouraged. Weekly seminars will be held and the student will also have an opportunity to attend regularly scheduled teaching conferences at the Kosair Children's Hospital.

Course Description:
The elective program will include assistance in the prosection of the many forensic autopsies, which are conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Goals:
The course objectives are as listed:
- Gain knowledge in gross human anatomy;
- Develop photographic skills;
- Expand descriptive medical terminology;
- Become familiar with pattern injuries and the pathophysiology of sudden and unexpected human death; and
- Recognize potential human toxins.
Method of Evaluation:
Mandatory attendance and daily discussion between staff and students concerning
pathophysiology as seen at autopsy. Honors: Paper is required.
PATH-920 Advanced Pathology

Course Description:
General pathology rotation to experience routine surgical, autopsy and clinical pathology experiences. There would be contact with general faculty.
Rotation of one of the subspecialty areas in pathology such as; GYN pathology, neuropathology, hematology, clinical chemistry immunopathology, blood banking, dermatopathology, etc. These areas of subspecialty are arranged with the faculty member responsible for these areas.
Goals:
Provide in depth pathology experience from the rotation chosen.
Method of Evaluation:
The performance of each student is evaluated by personal observation of his interest, attendance at departmental conferences, acceptance of responsibility and improvement of diagnostic capabilities.
